Hello from a moving train!
I'm on my way to the East Coast for a few shows and a short residency. I didn't get very much sleep but I did watch a beautiful moonrise over Gary, and sunrise over the Pennsylvania fields. If I spell things wrong in this email, I blame lack of sleep.
September is an exciting month, full of Things.
Various professional bits + news:
Finally sharing this conversation I had (via text, if you can believe it) with my dear friend and constant inspiration, the poet Elizabeth Metzger. We talk about embracing the unknown, the theater of traveling, and the mystery of editing. Read it here.
I'm a Wave Farm Fellow this Fall! Wave Farm in Acra, NY is an amazing center for radio and transmission arts, where I'll be doing research, teaching a workshop, and making a new piece for broadcast on their radio station.
The backdrop of my most recent playlist for Beloved Radio was a wonderful evening trip to the lake. The music includes tracks by Ravel, Richard Greenan, and LCM, and the background noise is me and my friends Zach and Zach talking about What's Up and our neighbors playing really great music.

Tiny recommendations, regular edition:
I've already sent this recipe to what feels like fifty people but: Spaghetti All'assasina is a wonder. We bought a special large frying pan for it, let me know if you need to borrow it. we also recently revisited this recipe for Chicken Yassa, which is so good.
Jess Bass and Gabriel Chalfin-Piney's show at the Comfort Station this month is beautiful and moving and truly multimedia.
Melons! From the farmer's market! Cantaloupe! Sugar Cube! Watermelon!
I bought a pair of leggings with stirrups yesterday. Is that hip? I can't tell yet.
Spencer Tweedy has a section of his website where he just writes down simple observations, it's really lovely.
N and I both went to the dentist after...some amount of time. And honestly? I really like our dentist. So I am going to recommend her in my newsletter in case you also need a dentist: Sarah Imtiaz at Dental 360 in Irving Park. They take Ambetter, and probably other insurance.
Tiny recommendations, special edition
N and I went to Milwaukee for a little vacation last week, and I'm including a couple of favorite spots we happened upon, in case you're interested:
Glorioso's Deli -- amazing Italian deli and market. The "Human Torch" sandwich (calabrese, capicola, provolone, hot muffaletta) is actually the best sandwich I have ever eaten.
Acme Records - This little record store in Bayview has a robust and very good ambient/electronic/experimental section. We picked up some old favorites: Green, by Hiroshi Yoshimura, Dysnomia, by Dawn of Midi, and Blanc et Noir by Zizou/Bikaye/CY1.
Supermoon taproom -- super lovely little storefront taproom for a really good brewery. Milwaukee breweries often do half pours (why doesn't everyone do this? that's how much beer I want!), so we could try a few things and still bike along the lake afterward.
Once you get over the mortification of looking like a tourist, biking in a new city is really nice, and the boat-like rental bicycles stationed around the city are actually quite convenient.
That’s all, for now!
